Space Segment Guidance

Review of system changes by a broader group (often including mission assurance and security specialists) helps mitigate the risk of introducing unvetted updates, especially critical for space platforms, where even small misconfigurations can threaten mission success.  For example, if one engineering team proposes a new software patch for a payload, a separate board with representatives from bus operations, cryptography, and flight safety could cross-check how that patch affects overarching satellite functions.  This extra layer of scrutiny is key in a domain where reverting changes is complex once the spacecraft is on orbit, and catching oversights early can save enormous resources in troubleshooting or compensating for an unintended failure.
