Space Segment Guidance

The allocation of security requirements across the space, ground, and user segments must be settled early. The system security plan should state that the Type 1 encryptor enforces confidentiality and integrity on the uplink, that the ground M&C server handles multi-factor user authentication, and that the payload instrument processor stores raw data only until relay, relying on the ground archive for long-term protection. Clear division prevents gaps, avoids redundant mass or power, and guides interface control documents so each segment designer knows which controls to implement.
