Space Segment Guidance

Thorough impact analysis is critical in space because seemingly minor changes can cascade into unexpected subsystem behavior.  Engineers must evaluate how it might affect bus power allocation, real-time scheduling, and communications timing if a new driver is introduced for a radiation-hardened sensor.  By systematically assessing these interactions, programs avoid “butterfly effects” that degrade mission availability or undermine security.  This proactive approach ensures that each change is fully understood before deployment, reducing the chance of in-flight anomalies that are nearly impossible to rectify once launched.
