CM-8(4) - System Component Inventory | Accountability Information
Include in the system component inventory information, a means for identifying by [Selection (one or more): name; position; role], individuals responsible and accountable for administering those components.
Keeping an updated inventory whenever components change is more challenging for space platforms; hardware is usually fixed once launched. However, software or firmware updates still occur, and new digital artifacts (e.g., refined attitude-control algorithms) can be introduced mid-mission. With this enhancement, every installation or upgrade triggers an immediate refresh of the platform inventory. For instance, if any discrepancy is found, a payload claims a version number not matching the ground system’s record, the event is logged and investigated. This real-time synchronization of inventory data helps the ground team catch incongruities that might signal unauthorized uploads or emergent anomalies.
